Władysław Parfomuk – age 8 or 9?
February 16, 1931 — Władysław Parfomuk was born in Berezna. Nikifor and Justyna already had four older children at the time (all of whom also survived into adulthood). Władysław (Walter) was their last child. The names and dates of birth of all the children were:
Maria — June 7, 1923
Mikolaj — August 27, 1925
Janina — December 18, 1927
Lidia — January 1, 1930
Władysław – February 16, 1931
All the Parfomuk children were born in the family farmhouse during a time of relative peace and political stability in the region. Nikifor was a trusted leader in the village, at some point becoming the mayor (or equivalent) of Berezna, The farm prospered. Władysław lived the ordinary life of a farm boy. Among his other jobs on the farm, he raised long-haired Angora rabbits to sell their hair (like fine, white wool) and to occasionally trade for chickens. The Parfomuk children were able to attend a Catholic school in Szemiotówka run by nuns. Justyna and her children probably also worshipped at the Church of St. Kazimierz attached to the school. The children later also attended a gentile school in Antopol. The photo above is of a young Władysław, probably around eight or nine years old.
