December 21, 1953 — During his Army enlistment, Władysław Parfomuk became a naturalized U.S. citizen, changing his name to Walter Parfomak in the process. Walter benefitted from a law Congress passed in June 1953 providing for expedited citizenship of immigrants who were serving on active duty in the U.S. armed forces during the Korean War.
