June 1, 2002 — Walter returns to Berezna, now called Biarozna (Бярозна) and Antopol after almost 60 years on a trip with his younger son, Paul. With an address from an old letter, he was able to track down a distant relative (Szymańska) who still lived in the area. She brought Walter back to his village and his family farmhouse, which was still standing, occupied by an older cousin–possibly Natalja Parfomuk. Walter also returned to Antopol to visit the main square and market building where he used to travel with his father. In conversation with a local woman around his age, he learned many things about what had happened in the area after his family had gone to Germany. The photos above are from that trip.
