1958 — While stationed at Fort Meade during his Army Service, Walter took college classes at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and by correspondence. After he finished his Army Service, he returned to Brooklyn and enrolled at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn (Brooklyn Poly) using benefits under the G.I. Bill. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering on June 11, 1958. He took his first job as a product testing engineer with Underwriters Laboratories, but soon moved on to Bendix Corporation, in the Flight Systems Division. He worked for Bendix, and its successor companies for the rest of his career.
